Must fix leaky radiator - opinions sought
My radiator is leaking on the left hand plastic part, on the very top. On the top of the left side plastic cap, there is a circle groove on the top, and coolant is seeping from it.
I'm going to store the truck while I'm in Korea, and I can't store it with any leaks. Is there anything I can put in there to stop the leak temporarily, to at least get it in to storage.
If not, I have to change this radiator out by next Tuesday. how long is a DIY radiator job? I could work on it saturday and sunday. Is it better to go to a dealer, and about how much would they charge? What parts do I need besides the radiator. Also, I have my own replacement radiator on hand already, will land rover change it using that radiator, or will they demand to use their own oem part?
Thanks
Thanks.

RE: Must fix leaky radiator - opinions sought
I've tried repairing leaky plastic radiators. It doesn't work. The hardest part about replacing it is puchasing it. Its very easy, usually aradiator can be replaced in about an hour (unless Land Rover's are wierd, which they don't seem to be). It's just a little messy. I suggest buying an inflatable kiddie pool for $10 to catch all the fluid, it can be messy. I would replace your hose clamps (and hoses if your nearing 100k miles). You should also have a couple a transmission lines that just thread on and off with a wrench, no big deal (just don't let much fluid come out). Other than the lines, there shouldn't be much more holding it in there (possibly a couple of brackets)
I seriously doubt that the dealer will let you use your own parts.
oh yeah, the only hard part is finding a place to dump the used fluid.

I replaced my 95 radiator... took 2 hours, because I did not remove ANYTHING but the radiator, and the shroud
your hands will get cut up and you will probably want to replace the hoses while it is out, also if your power steering reservoir leaks, it is much easier to get to the hoses there with the radiator out
you'll also want new clamps as the old ones have the bumps, not holes
just be warned that the radiator has the coolant, oil, and tranny fluid going through it.
