Default My new Disco II

OK so bought a used 2000 Discovery II 2 months ago with 134,000 miles. My mechanic took a look at the truck before I bought it and advised me that it had been well maintain. Its a nice ride, when it works, but it has left me stranded 3 times.

The first time I had to replace the starter, the second time was CPS, and this time the throttle body flange is leaking. I read the major service thread and I have change the fluids accordingly.

Any input or comments on what parts would be likely to brake down in the future?

Thanks !

XYZ switch?

Not sure if the Disco II has the same thing, but I was really dishing it out with my DI off-road, and apparently I set off some feature that shut the fuel off. Had to press some switch on my firewall to get it working again. Of course I find this out after towing it back home with my DII.

Regarding your new truck OP, always make sure the cooling system is in good order. Apart from leaving you stranded, an over-heated engine can cause extensive damage. wiggle your fan and check for wobble, and make sure it spins well once warmed up. Also check the belt for signs of damage. It's real easy to replace.

Welcome to Disco ownership. I curse it sometimes, but it has been a great learning experience. This forum is a priceless source of knowledge and guidance too.

The most important thing incase you have not read enough threads yet, make sure your front driveshaft has greaseable u-joints all the way around.

With that many miles I would also check condition of brake pads and rotors and do Disco Mike's Major Service (see the sticky)

that thing on the firewall is the intertia switch.

the d2's have xyz's the d1's don't. just pick up a used one and rebuild it. or rebuild your own if you have downtime with the truck. it will need to be cleaned and re-sealed. the ac drain drips on it and kills it setting the truck into limp.

Well with those items out of the way you will probably need head gaskets next if they had not already gone before you bought it. The issues you have experienced honestly can be fairly normal for a 12 year old car so wether or not it was a LR or something else they are all possible.

I would also suggest you quit letting the mechanic do your work, do the service yourself, we can walk you thru it and when done, you will have a lot better understanding of what makes your truck tick.
I see you did see my service list, did you do it all, cause this is important.
By the way, have you checked to see if your front drive shaft has been rebuilt or replace? If you don't have 1 grease fitting on each of the 3 u-joints it will fail and take the tranny with it.
