I bled the steering pump last night but it still groans.

There seems to be some power assist. It's not completely stiff to turn.

I do not see any leaks.

Do I need a new steering pump?

Yeah. I only have less then 2,000mi. on the new unit so the verdict is still out. Only time will tell.

Nothing from the exterior of the eBay item showed signs of poor/cheap quality. Seemed to be a stout little unit.

I replaced that steering pump and bled the system. It was pretty straightforward. Now there's no groaning sound which is good. No leaks either.

Now, there's a squeaky sound. Sound increases with engine RPM. Sound does not change when turning the steering wheel.

I loosened the serpentine belt. Seems all pulleys turn without obstruction.

What is this sound? Could it be a bad steering pump? Nothing else was changed. Could it be oil on the belt?

That doesn't sound like a squeak to me? Sounds mechanical, like a bearing on the rotating assembly. Or like pump cavitation or something?

Sounds like bearings in a pulley, to me.

Turns out, the steering pump pulley was not tightened. So, the pulley wiggling a little with rpm.

Tightened it up and sound went away!

Now I have to replace the driver's window regulator motor again! I go through these every year!

How's the pump holding up? I'm gonna replace mine but its $450 CAD new with a 1year warranty. Might go for that one if it's been working good for you, little tight on money atm. Thanks!
