Default Need Electrical System Help

I have been fighting gremlins for over a year any help would be great let me explain.
I have a 96 d1 with 197,000 miles on it.For over a year the battery has been randomly dieing. I have replaced the battery, the altenator, and the starter. I took it to a local rover shop in FLA not a dealer. He said my battery was dead said he place it on a trickle charger for 2 days and said he couldnt find anything else. He said he tested the ALTas well ascranked and drove it and could not find anything wrong. So recently I moved to NJ right after haveing the shop say there was no problem. So I went to Vermont this weekend and bam it wouldn't start just a clicking noise. So I decided it maybe a weak battery (because it was hella cold)so I went and bought a really good one and place it in the truck. No joy just clicking. We finially got a jump box and jumped it off. Got about Halfway to NY where I now live and got gas got back in the the truck and Click nothing. Got a jump again and got home last night. So I took the battery out and Have it on a trickle charger hoping this will help. Any Help or insight into this would be great. Do rover have a voltage regulator or anything like that? I know my old jeep use to.
THanks
E

clean, inspect and tighten all of your battery cables. Follow them back to where they connect to the truck. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

What brand of battery do you have?

I cleaned and tightened them yesterday when I installed the new battery. It was whatever the best one advance auto sells I was in the middle of nowhere Vt and that all they had. Also there are no extras on this like lights or winches or anything the electrical system is stock. When you say where they connect to the truck you mean to the starter or somwhere else?

easiest thing to do would be to take the pos. lead off and check the amp draw with the key off. If it is high, start pulling fuses to see what system is pulling the load. It could be possible for a relay to be sticking, leaving power to a circuit after the key is off. This would only be the case if you have a good load on the battery with the key off....

Not to be a butthead, but I think he wants to try to figure this out before trying to take it to a dealer. That's kinda the point of the forum. Nobody has told him to throw any parts at it yet, just where to start checking to try and diagnose the problem. Worst case scenario, he has narrowed down the problem when he takes it in and has a more familiar understanding of his truck..... Not much of a waste in my opinion....
