Default Need some help identifying a leak

Hey all,

I have a 2002 Discovery Series II with about 91K on it. In November my Rover got too hot and the red light came on over the temp gauge for the first time since I received it (with about 33K on it). The same thing happened once more in the winter. It hasn't happened since then because I have been paying closer attention to the coolant levels and topping the reservoir off when it dropped. About a month ago I replaced the thermostat with an aftermarket one that opens at a lower temp and the problem hasn't seemed to stop.

I placed a cardboard box under my car overnight and noticed some spots the next morning. I took some pictures of where the drops came from and posted them - any idea if they are something to worry about?

I also recently noticed that a few seconds after I start the car I see some white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, but the smoke only lasts 10 seconds or so then clears. Of course I only started checking recently when I started having concerns, so it could have been happening all along... Any thoughts?

sounds like carl might have a head gasket leak. watch your coolant level. I'd do a test for exhaust gas in coolant.
that oil drip is probably sourced from the valve cover. tighten it. but no way to tell from pics. you need to clean it off and trace it to the source.

Take a wiff of the smoke coming out of the rear end. If its got a sour smell to it that means burning coolant.

Pictures 1 and 4 look like a leak from your T-Case and by the look if the oil it needs to be changed. That same oil on the T-Case could be engine oil though being blown back and coating the T-Case as you drive.

I can't see evidence of a head gasket leak in your pictures but your description sounds very much like a head gasket leak.
