Need suggestions on how to remove old water pump gasket material

My D2 has been down for several months, waiting for me to find time to replace the water pump. I finally got around to it Monday,...….I've done this a few times on other prior D2s,....but never had this much trouble with the old pump gaskets. I have pulled and prodded and tried back scraping with a razor blade,....as recommended by Atlantic British in their water pump video,.....but that old gasket material is truly on there. I've been able to remove about 1/3 of it by just pulling the overhanging edges,....but in the other areas, without that overhanging edge,....its not moving. I tried slipping a razor blade under it,....and was able to lift a few short bits,....but the remaining half to 2/3s of it is not moving.

Hate to get too aggressive with a razor blade since it's aluminum,....and don't want to damage the gasket surface.
Wondering if there is a chemical gasket remover that will really lift a thick gasket like this one.

Any suggestions from those who had encountered this reluctant water pump gasket problem??

I wouldn't recommend oven cleaner spray on aluminum if anyone says to do it.

Permatex 80645 from any auto parts store.

Or spray CRC 05021.

I used a razor blade at a 90 degree angle to ensure I didn't gouge or deform the aluminum mating surface.

I used a razor blade to get the easy pieces and then a combination of scot brite pad and a dremmel with a polishing wheel

They used to sell a spray that dissolved paper gaskets. I haven’t seen it lately, but you just sprayed it onto the paper gasket, waited like 5min & then it just basically fell off with a razor blade.

I use a dull putty knife

A plastic version of the razor blade, brake cleaner, blue scotch brite and elbow grease. Figured gouging would be a particularly bad idea near the water pump.

I was in the same boat a couple of years back when I changed my water pump. It really takes a long time to get the old gasket off. I used a razor blade and scotch bright pad. I tried the Permatex gasket remover, but it didn't seem to do much.
