Needs new BCU
The shop diagnosed my start problem. It is the BCU being tempermental.
I will source a good used BCU, but does anyone know if I can program it with an autocom or will I need to take it to the dealer? |
I am getting a BCU from Paul Grant, and in the RAVE Manual it says that communications between the IDM and BCU can be set up after replacement by leaving the ignition on for 5 minutes in the description portion. IN the repair directions it says to use Testbook. So we will see.

Why not get the ECU and the instrument cluster? That way you are covered.

Will it be able to recognize my key fob?I’m thinking I will have to do some programming no matter what. |
I am stuck in Minneapolis at my folks, and Expedition Autowerks has Autologic and will program it for $50. So I am going to go that route. I can probably do it myself with the autocom, but am not going to risk buggering up my ECU.

How did they diagnose it being a BCU problem?
|
Autologic can do it, but they will need to reprogram your remotes. They are synced with the BCU.
Also, $70 is a good price. Make sure they do the remotes. |
I’m also suspect of the diagnosis, but it does happen.
|
I just got a picture of the BCU, and after fiddling, no start, no crank. I go back over, tap it a few times, and it fires immediately.
Now, that is not a sure fire 110% diagnosis, and there is a possibility it is unrelated, but I doubt it. I will get it switched out, and programmed, see what happens. I am not sure I have any other recourse. |
