Neutral Safety XYZ switch

Neutral Safety XYZ switch
Yesterday I was unable to start my 2004 DISCO 11. In park I get a click and in neutral I get a click. I am assuming that it is the Neutral Safety XYZ switch which I purchased new today and waiting for it to arrive. My question is do I need LRT 44-011 alignment tool to install the switch or can it be done with some other type of tool. Any thing else I should check for before I start the switch replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

I think cappedup is right. I would check the starter first. If you are hearing a click, that probably means the starter solenoid is functioning, just not the starter motor. If you had a problem with the XYZ switch, you probably wouldn't get anything when you turn the key to the start position.

IF dash and shifter indications not correct slightly rotate switch and recheck indications. Special tool for mechanics so they don't have to move to interior and check shift indication with eyes to verify correct adjustment.

My experience with the XYZ. Once you install it, there are 2 slots on the sides where the 10mm bolt goes. If that is not in the right spot, your truck wont start. When you get the sweet spot back, then it will start again. I saw that you purchased the switch. Did you try loosening the old part, then it did not start? I am not sure how you will be able to mark the switch, its very tight in that gap. I think you need a 10mm and a 14mm to get it out. Also remove the heat shield around it just 1 screw and fold it away.

Interested in an update on this. I'm sure you can return it if it turns out to be something else.

xyz Switch
Yea I jumped the gun and ordered the switch before checking the starter motor. I checked it out today and I believe it is the starter. I got both parts from Rock Auto and as soon as they arrive I will replace the starter and if that's the problem return the XYZ switch. Thanks guys for the help.

I suggest that while you are waiting for the parts to arrive try this simple test.
Turn the key in the ignition to the ON position so that all the instrument panel lights light up. Press on the brake pedal and move the shifter through all the positions. If PRND321 all show up in the gauge cluster and the correct red lights next to those positions on the shifter surround all light up when they it's less likely the problem is your XYZ switch.
