Default NEW 4.6 Engine from Land Rover????

Has anybody installed a new engine from Land Rover in a Discovery II (short or long block)? If so, what has been your experience?

If you need an engine replacement I would think one of the remanufactured ones from Atlantic British or Great Plains Rovers would be better.

Ah yup... there's your problem . Land Rover.

Seriously though, if you're spending the money get a cannibal or some other reputable after market motor. At least most of the bugs will be worked out.

If you go with a brand new un modified engine from Land Rover then you will only be buying yourself more time, but dont misunderstand, you will encounter all the problems of that engine all over again. Engine ticking, high probability of headgasket failure, slipped liners/sleeves, overheating issues etc.

So far I gather that Cannibal is the best route. The only review I read regarding the AB engine was that there was no noticeable improvement at all. Like it did not even feel like a re-manufactured engine! I'd like to think that a re-manufactured engine with improved parts would feel slightly better, and maybe even offer slight increase in power, and MPG...... maybe. If I do take the engine swap route in the future, I will either try Cannibal or a UK based company I briefly heard about. Cant remember the name at the moment.

I'd go with cannibal v8 also, flanged liners, there's that problem gone forever. Plus you can add a performance cam with them, so you not only will get a more sturdy engine, you get one that performs better as well!
