Default New Expedition Rack

Picked up a Safety Devices LR DI Rack this weekend. Was from a guy who owned a 98 DI . Snatched it for $280.00.All mounting hardware included. A few scratches but zero rust. For florida thats unbelievable. Thinking about stretching it another 4 inches as it is that much short for a DII. I think its all looks though. I have a pipe and tower welder every block as well as one good friend who owns a steel fab house so it's not going to be a big deal to stretch it. It would be 8 cuts and splices and then plug welded. Would do in the last section in the back so no bending would be needed. I think it would give me more storage space up above as i am going to put a tent up there. I will document process for anyone interested.

Later, Chris

No no no, chicken coop floor is to thick, you will loose half the depth of the rack.
I used the stainless steel stuff that they use behind tile in bathrooms and kitchens, it was like $20 for 2 sections at Home Depot, rattle can black, zip tie the hell out of it, I can walk on it.
Next time I'm using expanded steel, I'd prefer expanded aluminum but its twice as expensive.

With no floor the gaps are pretty big, makes it not only hard to walk on but hard to load stuff.

The main reason I waited and spent the money on the Baja Rack vs voyager rack was the tighter spaced tubes on the bottom of the rack. Not to mention voyager racks was awful to deal with when I called.

Good score on that rack though!! Where in FL are you?

Spike, I hate to tell you, but that's utter nonsense. Have you actually seen, in person, an SD rack with the Farmtek flooring? There's no way you loose even a 1/4 of the depth, much less 1/2.
I've had it on my rack for about 6 years and never regretted it in the least, and I use my rack a lot.

For the OP, there are always D1 owners looking for SD racks who can only find D2 racks. You might want to wait a while before cutting yours to see if you can find such a person to trade with.
The SD racks generally have a high quality coating and it will be expensive to get it recoated to the quality of the factory coating.
