For the OP, there are always D1 owners looking for SD racks who can only find D2 racks. You might want to wait a while before cutting yours to see if you can find such a person to trade with.
The SD racks generally have a high quality coating and it will be expensive to get it recoated to the quality of the factory coating.
Thanks Tom, I would consider trading but I can get it stretched for the price I would have it shipped.. I am also thinking of cutting the back rail out so I can mount the tent on the bottom instead of the top rail. It actually has the dimensions as a Hannibal rack so I may not cut at all. As for coating. I have a powder coat guy so it would be bullet proof... Still considering my options... and yeas...chick coop is the way to go i think...

If you are going to cut and re powder coat what about welding in extruded mesh and powdercoating everything together?

That makes a lot of sense .. i still like the idea of something i change out at will though. It is strong as hell and works well as well as looks good. Still have not made up my mind...

Thinking more about lowering the back for tent though....

You should get an Eezi-Awn tent for the top of that thing, it would look awesome.

Thats the idea... I actually am looking at another rack that is for a dII but they are asking $650.00 which is ridicules for a 8 year old rack... I can then put this rack on the 00 DII... Thats in the shop so not in a hurry...

Default Just picked up..
Just picked up a 04 safety devices LR Rack today. A couple hour's north of me. Threw it on and drove back home. Now the fun starts, prep, paint, lights, electric, flooring....Etc... I am getting ill just thinking about it...

You should remove those tubular roof rails and send them to me. They are just in your way now anyhow!

Ha Ha..funny, I probably would but if i ever sell it, i am screwed. you have to pull the headliner out just to plug the holes.. Pain in the *** like everythink else on these trucks. Actually installing the rack was the easiest.. The seller and me brought it over the top from the back and droped it on the rails. added plates and screws and i was gone. Sounds like a 747 with the wind noise now...

Oh well....
