New tires
I guess since I'm not selling anymore and my birthday is coming up my parents are getting rid of my mom tires for some better a/t tires. my disco is stock will 265/60r18 fit on there without any problems? Will i lose any MPG do i need to do anything for the speedo?
I currently have bridgestone dueler H/T 255/55r18 and the first day i took it off road the sidewalls sliced it seems like they are week even the duelers on my aunts rangie cut to the cords from hitting a curb so she says.
guess what I'm asking is whats the best tire in that size off road and still quite and comfortable on road?

My disco is stock too. The factory original tire size is 255/55-18 which I always thought looked way too small. I can't stand the way it looks when a tire doesn't fill a tirewell up well. Truck had brand new Michelins on it when I bought it, and I wasn't about to just waste that kind of a freebie. So I rode them out and then I replaced them with a set of four Nexxen Roadian 255/60-18. I know that doesn't sound like a very big increase, but it filled the fenderwells a lot better. The way a tire is measured is the 1st # is the width of the tire that actually touches the road in Millimeters. The 2nd # represents the the profile of the tire as a percentage of the 1st number. So if you do the math, my new tires are 1.28 cm taller than the original tires. I would think that you could probably get away with as much as a 255/65-18 or maybe even a 255/70-18 if they make such a size. The 255/70 would be almost exactlt a full inch taller than my current tires and would really be pushing it. I think if you didnt mind them rubbing a little when you get the truck in a bind then they would probably fit. You can always buy just one tire and mount it on the front and see how it fits. If so buy the other 3. If not return it if they will let you. my 255/60-18 have never rubbed, not even one time.
As for the MPG effects, i think that will depend on what kind of driving you do mostly. A bigger tire will be harder for the little V8 to get rolling, but would reduce you RPMs in final gear, like interstate cruising. If you do mostly stop and go around town driving, look for a decrease. If you commute a long way often, Look for it to stay the same pretty much, or maybe increase just a little. I always thought these trucks are geared too low. No sense in a V8 pulling well over 3000 rpm just to cruise at 75mph when we have a LOW side option if you need more power.

255/55-18 is 29", I have 255/60-18 Terra Grapplers which are 30", they never rub but only have 1/4" to 1/2" clearence at the bottom of the front bumper. I'm getting 12 city and 17-18 hwy. My guess is that the largest you could fit is 265/60-18 which is 30.5. After that, trimming the the lower portion of front bumper would be needed. 255/70 is 32.1", lift would be needed and MPG would drop off.
FYI, Goodyear is adding some new sizes for Duratracs in June. The appealing ones for us are 265/60-18 and 265/65-18 which is 31.5 x 10.7. Their website lists them at $240 and $260 respectively so we'll see what the big tire stores are able to sell them at.

I dont recommend you go any bigger than a 255/65. Any bigger than that and i'd be scared to cross a ditch or less in fear the tires would try to tear the fenders off the front. I'd stick with the 255 width though. 265 width may rub when turning very sharply on flat surfaces. Let alone turning sharply in a ditch or something.
