Default noise on startup

Greetings everyone!
Have a 03 discovery that makes a funky spinning/whining noise upon startup. If I turn the ignition off and restart the noise disappears otherwise it can last for a minute or so. Anyone have any idea what this can be??

How many miles on your trk? How long does the oil light stay on after you start it?

61000 miles and oil light doesn't stay on. The noise doesn't show up every time the engine is started only about every 6th time.

How long does it make the noise after start up if you dont turn the trk back off?
Does it only do it when the engine is cold? Like after it has sat all night?

Yea it does it only after it has sat for a while and could last for a minute. The noise sounds as if its coming from the passenger's side.

It sounds like the starter is not stopping after you release the key.

Sounds like your Secondary Air Motor running. Normal operation.

Not trying to threadjack, but what is Secondary Air Injection and how do I know if I have it? 1999 Disco II manufactured 3/99.
