Default Noise when steering? what to grease?

I have an 03 Disco with 63k miles. When I turn (usually only on first turn out of the driveway) there is a slight squeaking/groaning metal on metal noise coming from either the steering column or some part of the steering linkage. Any suggestions on where to lube and what grease or lube to use?

First you need to verify the noise's location before we can help you.

Nothing to lube, could be a bunch of things. If you feel it in the steering wheel though could be your tie rod end.

I will try to locate where the sound is coming from. I can feel a very slight vibration in the wheel when it happens.

I have a simular noise when I turn at a faster speed. Sounds like a coil spring groaning. All my fluids are fine. I don`t have ACE. I`m going to replace my isolators when I install my lift. Already have everything, just need to get my butt in gear and install it when I find a nice garage to do it in.

Good luck with yours, Bob

03springer... my buddy and I both have 01's as well and seems the first hard fast turn to the right we get a groan sound out of the steering on them... I have a 03 that does not do it... must be a rover flaw such as the clunk we all know to well.

I have the same symptom as you: one groan, the first time you rack the wheel from dead cold. I suspect it might be a belt going shiny; once it warms up even a little bit it has the torque to handle it.

If you serp is at all old, you might replace it and see what happens. Check it for shininess and cracks, and check your tensioner.

Since I bought my truck it has been doing this. My belt was been changed since by the dealer under warrenty. So I don`t think it is that. After I get the lift and new isolators installed I will repost if it made a differance.
