Default Noob here - need help with snow tires

'm a noob. Have 2001 Disco II. Dream car when I was a kid and now I have one. It's my daily driver - I'm NOT off-roading at all, maybe in the future. But just road driving for now.

Live in Cleveland, OH - winters are ****. Was driving last night on highway in a snow storm and was sliding all over the place. My LR has original stock 16" wheels and this tire: https://www.michelinman.com/tires/pr...-tour-a-s.html.

Was looking around and thinking about switching to this setup: https://www.roverparts.com/wheels-ti...eels/TFGRW012/

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Basically looking for a good winter tire that ideally I could just leave on all year round.

Thanks in advance!

Buy snow tires, most AT's are not all that great in snow. If you want AT's that are good in snow read tire reviews, do not buy based on what everyone else buys. Those tires are not great in the wet snow or just wet roads we get here in the PNW most of the time, they work but there are better options.

I'd look for a used set of LR alloy wheels. Probably find them for $100-$200 for the set. Bridgestone Blizzacks are some of the best snow tires.

Went with Cooper Evolution Winter tire this time, had Bridgestone Blizzards. Coopers seem just as good in snow, ice and slush. We got about four inches last night and it handled things with ease. The Cooper is a bit more aggressive, but has plenty of siping (small slits on lugs), which enhance drivability on ice and hard packed snow.

It's a nice cross between A/T and typical snow tire.

I second Cooper. Mine are Discoverer M&S bought years ago and I love them in winter, all year really.

Many years ago I had been living in a region with regular snow in winters. Everyone got snow tires included me on my FWD. 4x4/AWD doesn't help at all when you have to brake on snow. Grip was like day and night compared to all season tires. Although they make much better A/T tires these days, they are always a compromise. I would get a set of four used rims and run snow tires in winter. In the long run it doesn't cost much more, since you don't wear your tires if you store them properly.

I bought a D2 with DM-V2s on 18s and they work great.

I just slammed on the brakes on fresh snow and the truck stopped with no ABS. Really had to floor it and drive like a nut to get the TC to kick on.
