Default Is OD on my tranny busted or normal

So, I am a new Disco owner & IDK much about them. Is it normal to have the RPM at 3K when I'm cruising at 80MPH? Or is the tranny not shifting to OD? Or is that just how they are geared?

Oh, ps. I have an 03 w the 4.6 V8.

Thanks

Dunno, since I normally cruise at 75 MPH because the enforcement threshold around here is 80 and I don't want a ticket. Seems normal enough to me, though.

Seem right these things are not "hi-way geared" there is no Overdrive it is just a bog standard 4 speed transmission although I think 1st is quite low.

Richard is correct. Assuming you have stock gearing and tires the rpms will be around 2900 to 3000 or so at 80mph

First thought...80 mph...are you crazy...lol.

All joking aside...

Seems about right, for stock tire size. Usually don't drive any of our rovers that fast, but 2700 rpm is about 75 mph...so 2900/3000 rpm seems reasonable.

I'm in TX so 75mph is the normal highway speed limit. I do 80mph all the time and yes stock gearing 2900-3100 is normal depending on tire size.

@CheapWagon wait until you see the mileage Disco's are not considered what you would call fuel efficient. Weight, full time 4 wheel drive, body shape etc.

Oh yeah, I have noticed. When it the fuel light came on at around 250miles (400KM) I assumed it had a 17 gallonish (64liter) tank; but boy was I wrong, 22 gallons (80 +) liters later I learned.

In my defense, I was trying to see if it'll drop into overdrive.
