Default odometer FAIL

i bought my 2004 disco II from a dealer back in Nov 2010 (just a few months ago). When i bought it, the odometer read around 49,000. Took it in for my first oil change yesterday. Odometer read something around 52,000 miles, and the sitcker they put on my windsheild says my next scheduled oil change is at 55,000. Today i turn it on and see that my odometer reads 85,000!!!!! whooooaaaaaa!! so either my computer is REALLY messed up, or i bought a car with 30,000 miles more than i thought. i admit, i made a big mistake by not getting a carfax report on the vehicle from the dealer. i have contacted them, and am currently waiting for a call back from the GM. but im asking you guys, what do you think? has anyone ever experienced an odometer jump like this?

The odo got switched over from miles to km's.

Press and hold in the odo stalk for a few seconds and wait for it to switch back...

EDIT - just noticed you already called the dealer...oopsy...the boys down there are going to get a kick out of this...

What he says, odo was switched from miles to kms.
50000miles = 80000kms

Funny emergency to have. You can play with the dealer.
Turning the thermostat to Celsius and the Odo to KM!
