Default OEM Shocks

Does anyone know what company made the OEM shocks for our Discoverys? I have a '03 Discovery with no air suspension, bone stock, 100K miles. It's probably about time to replace the suspension/springs. But... I'd like to be able to fit in the garage still, so I probably won't be lifting it. I've always been happy with the OEM ride, but couldn't find an OEM shock at AB or RoversNorth. The other option I was thinking about was Bilstein with LR springs.

Thanks,
RedAustinIX (Ed)

Coil springs have no service interval... Replace shocks only.

Coils do and have always dropped about 1.25 to 1.5" on all Rovers.
Ed, if you want some help with this project, send me your number and I'll be glad to walk you thru your options.

Hey, Since I'm about to purchase new shocks I'm curious about this topic as well.

Maybe either the OP or Disco Mike can let the rest of us know those apparently top secret options only revealable in a phone call.

My mechanic recently told me he is now getting a good price on KYB's, not sure which model, but I've read mixed reviews about them on our 5000lb trucks.

I only plan on doing front shocks, not coils... should I do the steering stabilizer too?

replaced the rear shocks with Bilsteins 50k ago, they still seem fine.

Thanks!

If you don't like the fact that I offer to help people off line, you might want to move to another forum. People who complain how I do things sure as hell won't get any help from me. Just food for thought.

No problem at all Mike, I get more help on here from people other than you anyway.

Just don't think its good practice to dead end threads like that without any follow up for those who are actually searching for information.

It's great that you can help people on the phone but how about everyone online reading this thread? A big giant FU to the rest of us?

I guess you are suggesting this is a forum only for those you deem worthy of a call or a PM?

hope your day gets better Mike! Maybe you should have a nice cold beer and chill a bit.

as a matter of fact, PM me your address and I'll send you a fine NW microbrew.

I've only been around a year, but I tend to agree with Dave03S.
Mike, when you post information here, it's really good information. But more often then not, you dead end a thread by offering to call or be called. This is very nice of you and I'm sure lot's of folks have benefited from personal time on the phone with you but it's counter to how forums are *supposed* to work.
If you or the people you help on the phone would come back and post the solution or conclusion to their issue it would be great. But what happens mainly is "hey, I have xxx happening"… and then you say call or I'll call you - end of the story and the thread goes dark.

Don't take too much from this, I really appreciate the information you have contributed here and LRO, and heck, even DiscoWeb and LRRF, but you gotta see it from our perspective, no? I don't know if you want to post the outcome of your phone calls or whatever, but many of the recent posts here end with you saying "better call me" and that only helps one person when we could all be profiting from your knowledge.

Food for thought.

So, I oversee 4 other Rover forums and when it comes to helping people Sometimes I remember to tell people to post a reply, quite often they don't. I do more work on the phone because I can get more information directly from them and help them work thru their issue with one call instead of multiple replies and when you are doing 20 to 30 calls a day, I don't keep up
You ever have a question about one of my replies, shout and I'll try and help.
