off road tire for 18 in wheel and 2 inch lift
Lots of threads on this but can't seem to find thhe one that fits my situation....
Just installed the Terrafirma HD air to coil kit with 2 inch lift.. Sure glad I did that but, of course, it is now time to fit off road mud tires on my 18 in wheels. Anyone have a recommendation on the max tire size without having to make any modifications to wheel wells, steering system, gears, etc?
Also any advice on benefit and brand of stabilizer on the front end would be appreciated. With the 2 inch lift, the steering feels just a tad loose. Could be I just need to get used to the new feel. Fyi...Vast majority of my driving is very bad dirt roads with muddy stretches and water crossings during the rainy seasons.
Thanks much.

I just put 275/65/18 DuraTracs on my truck with an OME heavy duty lift. I had to trim my front stock bumper just a tad to get them to fit. If you go to my albums you can see some pics of how I trimmed it up a bit. If you have an aftermarket off-road bumper, youw will likely have no problems fitting a 275/65/18. I love the DuraTracs, and I like the size, but if you don't want to do any trimming, go for a 60/18 probably.
Also, the steering stabilizer will make a big difference. I was driving with my stock one with my lift for a couple days, and then I put an OME one in, and the difference was night and day in my steering. Also, with the new lift and tires, get your alignment done. That will help too.

the loose feeling is a combo of the steering angle change from raising the truck up, and probably the alignment. there was only 1 company out there when i was lookin back in the day that made castor corrected arms for the DII for lift corrections, but the prices are very high, and the problem, not so bad. a good alignment really improved my symptoms to the point where i dont notice it much at all, except at 75+mph on ****ty highways, it might wonder around a bit in the lane... but really, a good aligntment is all that is needed. bring it to a shop that routinly does truck/jeep alignments if you can, youll have hit or miss (from experience) with sears and the like type shops, most of the techs are looking for jobs per hour ratios, not miticulous satisfaction work ratios lol. i brought mine i 3 times before it was good, the first time it still wondered around, the 2nd time it was strigt but the steering wheel was about 5 degrees off centerline, the 3rd time its only about a degree or so off center, and doesnt wonder around... thats good enough for me haha! i did put in a terrafirma steering stabilizer, but noticed no change in feel. it also came with a u joint that wasnt threaded on one end and no instructions like all thier crap... but i was cheap and looked pretty in silver. ah well
