Default Off Road Tires for Disco2

All,

I am a few days away from buyinga set of 245/75-16 tires for my 2002 Disco2.

The two tires that I am considering are the BFG AT T/A KO and the Goodyear Wrangler S/A.

Any thoughts on either tire? Other tire suggestions?

How many ply(s) should I be looking at?

Thanks in advance,
JeffQ

Jeff,

I have 265 65 18 BFG AT T/A KO....and I love them. It drives really smooth and it's very functional when I go camping or trailing.

The OEM Goodyears 255 55 18 were ok, but once I switched, it makes a huge difference in the drive.

DV57,

Do you know how many ply(s) the BFG's you have are?

The tire shop here in town was suggesting a 4-ply tire.

Anyone have experience with the Goodyear Supersport HT's?

BFGs. I've been running those on my Jeeps and now my Disco. Great tire. Sidewall protection always seems like something you can live without until you enter a really ugly trail.

The 245/75/16 is a load range E that is a 80psi tire or 8 to
10 ply I can't remember right now.
I run the BFG-AT 245/75/16 and have had good luck with them.

If I where going to do more on road I would get the Michelin
LTX M/S tires.

I have had many many miles on both and both are great tires
for different needs.

Are you looking for an offroad tire or an on/off road tire? The BFG and Firestone Destination 2 are both good on/off road. For off-road you'll want something line an Interco TSL or Simex Jungle Trekker to get the most out of them. I certainly had some traction issues compared to the guys with Super Swampers last weekend.

Go with a 8 ply rated, "D" BFG AT, you will love them.

Yeah, I have to say I need something with better sidewall protection than my Destination 2's. I noticed a rip in one sidewall today, and the rims are pretty scored up. These will be my crawling rims for sure, anyone know if a 15" will fit over the brakes, I'd guess no.

BFGs hands down. I've been running them on my Rodeo for7 years and as soon as these Michelins on the Discovery are worn out, I'll put BFGs on it too. They wear like iron and are great on and off road. The rim guard feature is a nice touch as well.
