I'm probably speaking the obvious, but when you get the cap off the tube just be careful to not overtighten it again. It's only purpose is to keep dirt and debris from getting into the engine. A light touch is all that's needed to tighten it.
It’s likely the dumbest question Inhave asked yet, but I haven’t stopped asking questions, so I am sure I’ll come up with some more.

I picked a genuine oil filler cap, and noticed that I was missing the O-Ring. Total noob move! So, user error.
