OME install HEEEELLLLPPP
preface: I have an 03 DII not SLS
Ok... Here's the deal. I decided to install my 2" OME today and I had to admit defeat ;( What makes me upset is that I am mechanically inclined but CAN NOT for the life of me get the gigantic new spring in the front!! I have two spring compressors but must be doing something wrong. I have heard about disconnecting the driveshaft at the yoke? I dunno. I have the axle hangin' down as far as I can get it to go ( I have not "disconnected" anything) and it is not enough to slide those puppies in like everyone is saying it is so easy to do (I feel retarted).
* I started with the front and I have the front right stock shock and spring out. This is it (after a lot of head scraching) I know, I know. Another question is: do I install the shock and then put the coil in or what? As you guys can tell by now, im pretty frustrated with my lack of Disco skills.
So...
How do I get the axle to drop so I can get this project wraped up? What do I need to unscrew, take apart, ect.
HELP IS APPRECIATED!
-Steve
P.S. Please don't send me a link to the SLS coil conversion page on discoweb.

RE: OME install HEEEELLLLPPP
ok heres what helped me with mine
1) disconnect sway bar links
2) unbolt front cross bar between frame (to let front drive shaft drop more)
3) unbolt bracket for brake lines (not brake line itself) from axle
4) unbolt both shocks at same time taking care not to strech brake
lines and disconnect abs sensor wires.
i had more rome than i need to tuck the 3" lift springs without spring compresser
in the spring seats
good luck

I have a 69 Camaro, I also had the same problem. The jack idea is a good one however, it isnt all that stable ( I learned that one the hard way) so if you do it that way stay patient!
I ended up using a cargo ratchet strap on the springs to compress them as far as thay would go.

RE: OME install HEEEELLLLPPP
What is the right placement of the spring compressors? Each on one side obviously, but should I put the compressors on the very top and then the very bottom and then compress or just the lower half...? Also, do I mount the shock first at the top and then try to get the spring around it? Im at a loss. Thanks again guys.

RE: OME install HEEEELLLLPPP
When I did mine a few weeks ago the front springs went in first and the spring compressor was removed through the shock tower. These were RTE springs w/ OME shocks. We couldn't use the compressor for the rear because there was no way to get it out of the spring once it was in place. We disconnected the rear sway bar and then the floor jack was used to lower the rear axle until the brake lines were fully stretched. At that point the spring slid right onto the seat.
