Default p0741 torque converter help.

P0741 code. Check eng on. Just pulled valve body and removed tcc solonoid and connector. 12V to soloniod and clicks just fine. Cleaned solonoid screen and multiplug to trans. Cleaned solonoid electrical connector and refit. Trans rebuilt 20,000 mi ago, never a shift/stall problem, converter locks/unlocks just fine. Just want the engine light off after 2 yrs and 2 head gasket changes....Where to look next pls..................Mike, anyone ?

Yes,CEL is still on due to P741. No, I have not found a way to bypass code. When it comes to the trans there is very little info around. To get the truck smogged,I need to clear the code and drive the truck in gear 2 to get most of the smog parameters set (monitors on reader).Illinois, think they test 6. Having a cheap autozone type reader is essential. You can check which parameters still need to be met because.....For a few codes u need to get up to 50mph or so and that's in 3 gear. 3rd or 4th is when the 2004 will send lock up signal to converter, so get up to speed slowly and not for too long. Believe earlier models have different software and mabey only lockups in 4th or will not lock-up, deaccelerate in 3rd. Bit easier to trick. Check reader frequently to see if last few (Monitors) are met. Don't want to drive any extra with CEL off. If your lucky u can get all monitors met and be ready to test.Takes me 2 days ish to be ready for test, I try to drive short trips varying eng speed and slippin into neutral as the converter can be told to act as a brake IE; lockup. There is the transmission manual I found in this fourm that explains the converter operation but no t-shooting for p741. Read it. After 50 miles or so and passing the smog test I put it in drive. While the smog building is still in my rear view mirror the CEL pops on.Always makes me smile...

Thanks for the info.
I just replaced the solenoid and drove the truck for 68mi before the check engine light came on.
I was afraid to check to see if the code was present prior to the light coming on.
I have also found that this code can be caused by a few other conditions,
Bad fluid and filter (which as been replaces and verified clean.)
Bad solenoid (has been replaced)
Faulty Engine Temp sensor (I have ordered new one as well as new thermostat and will replace)
Also bad Valve block, (I found a plce in NJ that will rebuild for $300)
Bad wire harness
Like a said before I just want the damn thing to pass my state inspection, once I can do that, then maybe I will remove the valve block and have it rebuilt and also replace the wire harness while I'm in there. (I have removed the valve block like 4 times already and quite frankly i and just tired of smelling like tranny fliud!!!

To be continued!!!

Yea, dropped the valve body twice. Not too bad. I gave the p0741 a go once a year so I change fluid and filter. Kinda gave up. CEL dosent bother me anymore due 3 amigos lights, and rear suspension light (did 2in springs) and CEL (5 lights). Pls keep this updated and I hope after all the work you plan its not the converter.....
