Passenger side water leak
I was washing my '04 Disco over the weekend and when cleaning the door sills I noticed a small amount of water on the passenger floor mat. I reached up and could tell that the water came from somewhere under or aroundthe glove box. I have not started to really dig around as of yetbut was hoping that someone had suggestion where the leak may be coming from.
Thanks, JF |
RE: Passenger side water leak
Windshield seal leak is a good place to start.

RE: Passenger side water leak
Form the RAVE Technical Bulletin - Water Ingress into the Passenger Footwell - 76/37/94/EN Water collects in the plenum sponge that is situated above the intake duct and drips into the intake, water is then drawn into the heater assembly, on passing through the heater assembly water leaks into the passenger footwell. The reports also indicate water is taking the same route via the windscreen lower seal, these conditions show in the following ways (wet carpets and water leaking from the heater). To overcome this condition a deflector strip has been introduced to route water away from the heater air intake duct, this deflector can be retrospectively fitted to vehicles that exhibit this condition. |
RE: Passenger side water leak
Thanks for the information on the TSB. JF

I have the same problem in my 03 Disco. Went to the car wash and water poured into the air intake and into the plenum chamber out onto the floor.
Does anyone know where I can get a deflector strip online? Regards |
Reason i am looking for online is because I live in Sweden......

I found that clearing the coolant overflow tubes did the trick on mine.

While shopping for Disco, I looked at 2 of them that had the same leaks up on the corners of the rain gutter / windshield. On the one (pictured), the top of the headliner was wet on the driver's side, but on the passenger side it dripped down to the floor. It was pouring rain that day. Maybe check up top.

I sealed siliconed my roof up there on both sides and it stopped my leak

After driving through a week of rains recently I too got water on the passenger side floorboard/ footwell area- not just the front but the back passenger foot area also. The area coming down from the glovebox seemed dry so the source of the leak is a mystery to me. The truck doesn't leak during dry days so I'm sure its not a heater/ coolant leak. I do get an occasional minor drip around the top center of the windshield around the rear-view mirror so I know the windscreen weatherstripping is compromised slightly tho to-date it only drips onto the center console by the shifter- but to now suddenly have some pretty good water down at the floorboards- especially enough to have made it all the back to the rear foot area- is a mystery.
Is it possible that the underbody has leaks, like a missing plug or bad weld seams? Bosshogt- how did you apply the silicone? |
