poor acceleration

hi to all, hoping someone can help here.I,ve just brought my first landrover having liked the discovery for years i was always put off buying one by other people, but when my old car was ready to die and now i,m nearly 50 i thought if i don,t get one now i never will.So after looking at a couple and deciding petrol or diesel i went for the v8 petrol 4.0 litre lpg converted w 2000.Now this is my problem, when i test drove the car i thought the acceleration was slow but as it is a big heavy machine i thought thats how it was not as fast as a 1.6 astra but as i,ve had it 3 months now i notice it more than ever.Buses and trucks are faster at pulling off from standstill and it seems to be getting worse,so i looked for answers first i read about the maf sensor so i cleaned it (light brushing)no difference,i then i read that if you disconect it and it runs better it is the maf (tried it cut out after a mile would not start reconected it and started)then iread could be the injectors but as it,s the same on lpg or petrol i don,t know, then i thought spark plugs or ht leads took out the plugs look ok platinuim the leads look ok please help

When you floor it (not recommended rover driving style :) but sometimes you have to) At about what RPM does it shift from 1st to 2nd?

hi jafir i don,t know but i will check it tomorrow and post then, thanks

zipbloke May 18, 2011 11:08 AM

hi jafir the shift 1st/2nd is 2250 to 2500 rpm on petrol and nearer 2750 rpm when on lpg what do you think thanks

jafir May 18, 2011 11:25 AM

If it's floored, and it's only going to 2500ish when shifting, I'm going to blame transmission for your poor performance problems. It could be something as simple as the throttle cables have gotten loose.

I thout the same think when i bought mine back in 09' but ive done all the maintenance and such and its simply a slow vehicle. Only 189hp (or something like that) in a very heavy vehicle. My girlfriends 06 v6 grand cherokee murders the disco in a drag race
