Default Portland Oregon. Rover mechanic referrals.

Am looking for Portland based reccomdations to get my rover fixed at. my MS has gotten a bit worse in the colder climate making it harder to work on my vehicle. I need to get the power steering fixed and am whondering what to expect to pay. I live off of ssdi. so I have to shuffle payments for work.

thanks in advance for any reccomendations.

roger.

Your big three options are probably Columbia Roving, Green Oval and PDX British. If none of those garages suit your fancy you could also try the following:

Freeman Motors - they have a tech who has owned a handful of older LR's. He's pretty versed on the truck and has helped me with a few projects. You would ask for Andrew.

AR Auto Service - they now have a new tech who worked at Columbia a number of years ago. He should still know his way around a Disco. Byron I believe is his name.

Rodger,

Hope you are up and running soon. Enjoyed the posts you've made to your blog so far, looking forward to more..and some pictures from your travels. Wish you were closer, with this power steering issue...would certainly help you out, for sure, even if it ment taking some parts off the beast to get you rolling again (my 01...not the 03...if I messed with my wife's...it would mean making room for me in your rig...lol). If your travels ever take you through Michigan, please let me know.

Safe travels and stay in touch.

Brian.

Just across the river in Vancouver is Kings Cross Automotive. They're the ones I go to for issues that I can't take care of, like the power steering pump and hose replacement a year and a half ago. That was about $900 for parts and labor, btw.

PDX Rovers are one of the shops who told me I needed a new engine for $10k... When the problem was actually a bad lobe on the cam shaft causing a misfire (and backfire.)

Had it properly diagnosed and had the camshaft replaced at Green Oval and got another 100k miles out of that block... At a fraction of the price.

I have had good service from Doug at Green Oval when I lived in Portland.
