Default Power Steering Box Leak - Repair

Got a leaking power steering box. I see that you can replace the seals with this kit: QFW100190 Anyone actually do this repair and have it documented? Trying to get an idea of complexity and time commitment.

Thanks!

Save the hassle and buy a reman box.
The seal you see above the pitman arm is only a dust seal.
You have to take the box apart to replace the plastic, bushing type seals on the worm gear.
Those seals are only available in a $100+ seal kit, so if one gets a knick on install, yep...that's another $100+ kit.
Been there, done that, and I will always rebuild before I replace. The needed parts simply aren't available individually.
The disassembly/assembly of the box only has one difficult part, and that is a heavy duty "C" clip, good luck with that thing. It appears easy for in and out, but it's size and strength make it a huge pain in the azz.
I wish I'de bought the reman box before I attempted the rebuild. Had I known what I found out, I would have.
The 3 seals(plastic bushings) got an edge sheared off as I Gently reinstalled the worm gear. No force applied, it set into place, and then I noticed the 3 tiny blue pieces, edges that got cut off.

If the steering box leaks, you Must disassemble it to fix it.
No epoxy, fluid additive, or magic fix for it.

Here's the box apart.
Not complicated, just damage one of those 3 blue rings...and you're done.
Those 3, plus the big white one that goes on the rack are all that keeps the fluid in.

Thanks sixpack. I don’t want to do a full rebuild. I think I just need to replace one seal. But your saying it’s not worth it? Attached is the latest pic with the source (I think) of the leak.

I can't tell where it's leaking from in that picture.

Here’s a couple more pics. I am beginning to think maybe it’s just a hose clamp (see arrow)?

This is where I originally thought the leak was coming from. Now I think it is from further up.

Could this just be a leaky hose clamp?

That’s the low pressure hose. Yes you can cinch down that clamp at the pump.
imo... take it off and check for cracks in the hose. If no cracks then tighten down the hose clamps.

Cool. Stupid question: If I take off this hose, will all my fluid spill out?

I’m thinking I might have a leak at the power steering pump that is just dripping down on the steering box. I have dried both suspect areas and will check for drips in the morning. I usually have a puddle overnight so this should provide me with some better insight.
