Problem with lugs
I just discovered while trying to fix a flat tire that I have a stripped lug, any wisdom on how to remove it? The cover just spins and spins, not allowing me to remove the lug. Anybody know when I can buy some REASONABLY priced replacements?
Your lugs are not stripped. What has happened to you is that the tire shop used the impact gun to put the tires on and the lugs have "strechted".
What you need is a 6-point 1/2" drive 1 1/16" socket and a 1/2" breaker bar, a hammer, channel locks and a spray penatrant/lube.
Spray the lug with the lube, hammer the socket onto the lug, attach the breaker bar and get the lug off the truck.
Next is the hard part, trying to get the lug out of the socket. You will have to tap it on the cement, no, bang it on the cement and pull on it with the channel locks.
Do this 20 times. Once you have all the lugs so that the socket will fit use that socket to put the lugs back on the truck.
Next time you get tires/brakes/tire rotation tell those guys to use your socket and breaker bar. Watch them, if they even think about using the impact wrench kick some butt!
