Quick and Dirty QuickFist Brackets 04' D2

I'm shopping around for roof rack solutions. Given that I can't imagine using it all the time and it may not fit in my garage with it on, I came up with this cheap 20$ solution for taking at least a shovel with me when I go for a trail ride.

Parts:
I found all this stuff at the local Lowes.
1. U-Bolt 2.25" 3/8 Dia x2 (Came with straight brackets.)
2. Extra 3/8 Nuts x4
3. #10 Bolt 1.25"- Bought a pack of six. Used 2 Bolts and 4 nuts from the package. You'll also need 2 washers.
4. Heavy duty...can't remember the size exactly..Heat Shrink Tubing
5. L brackets.
6. QuickFists

Steps:
1. Cut 1.25" off the end of the U-Brackets
2. Using dish soap and water, run it through the heat shrink tubing and slide it onto the U-Bolt.
3. Using a hair dryer or oven, bake the U-Bolt and let the tubing shrink.
I also had some unused weather stripping lying around, so I cut off about 1.5" and used it on the straight bracket of the U-bolt to cushion against the tube.
4. Pick which side of the L bracket you will slide onto the U bolt. You will need to drill out the hole slightly so that it fits the u-bolt properly.
5. Slide the U-bolt over the post and fix your Quickfist to the bracket using the provided washer. Place one of your extra washers on the bottom and tighten with 2 #10 Bolts.
6. Slide the L-bracket over the top bolt of the U-bolt and add 4 bolts to the top and bottom.

***If you have trouble threading the nuts on the U-Bolt after your cuts, use a metal file to grind it down to the next thread edge.

Hope this helps for anyone looking for a quick fix while they shop around.

Looks good.

I wonder if these 2" diameter LED brackets would work on the front Disco roof bars for the QuickFist bracket?

I wanted to get those originally. The 2.25” u-bolts I used are VERY snug. I looked at a few other pipe brackets and nothing really seemed large enough. I may modify it later if I can find a better bracket to attach 2 fists to the bolt.
