Default Radio Antenna

Does replacing the radio antenna entail removing the fender on a 1994 Discovery? Is there any other way or can someone suggest a replacement antenna that can be mounted elsewhere and works?
Thanks

Yes I've pondered this too with my 95? The 96 & above has it built into the rear windows. I was wondering if I could upgrade mine to this if I found suitable parts? I think the 96 & up has an amp for the antenna also? I've also thought about seeing if I could put one of those smaller black ones on you find on newer cars like the Jetta etc and mount it on the roof?

I think you might be able to get up there without taking the fender off, but it looks pretty tight? I haven't poked around too much at it yet. But I need to replace mine too sometime.

have not actually looked at it however most mast style antennas require an antenna wrench.

Actually 96 still has the antenna mounted in the front fender. The antenna in the rear window started in 97.

Be careful with mounting an antenna on the roof as like hanging branches like to snag them and rip the off. If you do anyone off roading I would leave the antenna on the fender where it is.

You have to remove the inner liner of the wing. I bought a replacement antenna at Pep Boys. It has a pivot on the base that allows you to remove the mast then you can access a screw to remove the base from then on.

I'm glad I have the antenna in the rear windows. I never listen to normal radio so having an antenna on the fender would be horrible. I listen to Sirius or my iPod.

The 97 up has the booster monted behind the trim for the alpine light, right by the window. Actually 2 antennas, one for FM, the other for AM and WB.

Guess I was wrong on the year, I looked at one that was being parted out and I thought the guy told me it was a 96 but it was a while back now so I may have just forgot what he told me. But yeah I saw behind the trim and saw that window antenna plugged into something there and assumed it was some sort of amp or booster.

Yeah if I went with a roof antenna it would be one of those short stubby ones you see on new cars now, and probably have some sort of amp also. My Acura CL the antenna is built into the rear window and I guess it's boosted too. I live out in the sticks and it picks up the radio stations better than the Disco.
