Default Ranger Rover 4.0 and Disco Series I Share Mechanicals?

I'm curious about what the Range Rovers 4.0 and the LR Disco 4.0 share. My brother has a 1997 LR Disco and the Rover 4.0 look like similar drivetrain and engines. Anyone willing to enlighten me? Thanks.

The Range Rover Classic and Disco I's share alot, as does the
Defender 90.
This changed when the Disco II's came out. As it was a redesign by BMW of the Disco not yet called the Disco One or Disco Two.
Land Rover did not want to have the Discovery a little brother
to out shine the Range Rover so the Disco would get carbs not
fuel injection and no air ride just springs at first.
It was like getting the hand me downs from the Range Rover.
This is with the GEMS motors not the Bosch motors.

A book that gives the history is "You & Your Land Rover Discovery"

So a 97 Disco I SEand 96-97 Range Rover 4.0 don't share the same engines, tranny, and drivetrain? The classics I heard were essentially rebodied Disco I's.

I know the RRC does and its last year was 1996.

The RR P38A started in 1994 and I'm not sure about it.

Yes both are GEMS motors the AC is setup different on the RR.

If you look the RR has a electrical brake booster.
But same motor.

My MAF is flipped over also that way you get more HP out of it.

Both are clean trucks the RR is lighter so with the 4.0 it would
be faster.

Does anybody know where a RangeRover 4.0 with a blown engine might be for sale? My brother has a nearly mint 1997 Disco...well nearly, I mean before the accident. He meticulously maintained it and just put about $600 for power steering hoses and radiator work. So I was thinking maybe finding a Range Rover 4.0 and swapping the engine. Any comments? Ideas? or Advice?

What are planning on doing with the truck, this should be a big factor in your drcision rather then swapping parts.
