Question Re-sleeve engine a safe approach??

I have found a guy near me in Charlotte that seems optimistic that he can re-sleeve the bottom part of me 4.6L. It has overheated several times to pretty extreme measures. The gaskets blew, anti-freeze in the oil, and pressurized cooling system indicates a cracked sleeve. Would this be a bad idea to have the guy try and fix it?? Could the block warp or have gone bad?? I have 95,000 miles and he said it should be good to go... Your thoughts please

If I was going to get one resleaved I would go with the tophat liners. That way you know for sure youll never have problems with them again.

Considering the sleeve might well be the stronger of the two (Block aluminum and sleeve steel) I would say save yourself many head aches and get a replacement engine that has some known good service and was removed from a vehical in good working order.

Shouldn't you get the block pressure tested before doing anything else with it?

You will just be wasting your money, 4.6's have the thinnest sleeves of all Rover engines and if you have beaten that engine up as much as it sounds like it is a boat anchor.
Last I head, top hats are over $500 a cylinder.
Start over and get another engine.

D&D fabrications sells the sleeves for $85 a piece. he can talk most any machine shop through the process. his name is mark and his website is www.aluminumv8.com. mark also has some interesting performance kits that many of you might be interested in.

also there is LA Sleeve their website is www.lasleeve.com. they sell em for $95 a piece.

Default This is new info

Apparently the Bosch engine can not be resleaved?? British Atlantic guys told my mechanic buddy that you can only resleave the GEMS engine and not the Bosch.. So my next approach the Insurance wrecked auctions for a totaled truck with good motor...

Does anyone have any intel on not being able to resleave the Bosch 4.6L??

check this out. this guy seems to infer that you can use flanged liners.

i would call the guys at the businesses i listed above

here they are again.

D&D Fabrications www.aluminumv8.com
LA Sleeve www.lasleeve.com

they manufacture the sleeves. i've talked to them both and got good info.
