rear window motors
I pulled my door panels to try and figure out why they were not working and noticed that from the switch at the door to the motors both wire had 12v on them. I expected to see one + and one -. Do I have a bad switch/switches, or is the motor fried/shorted out?
They are sunk to ground on the appropriate side (up or down) by the BCU, so they should have 12v on them at all times (weird, I know...but most newish automotive control circuits do this now). Check the other sides for ground continuity when operating the switch. You should have ground on one with the switch in one position, and ground on the other in the opposite position, and no continuity at all with the switch not pressed.
The BCU senses high amperage as the motor stalls (full up or down) and cuts the ground out to stop the regulator from moving until you let go of the switch.
