Rebuilt Salvage 03'?
Found a guy locally selling a R-Title Discovery. Its an 03' with 60k on it. This is his "story" he bought and did a complete restoration on it including minor engine work. It does look good. I drove it and it sounds better than mine and drives good. He wants $6500 for it. Is that fair for a salvage vehicle??? Seemed high to me but he said thats what he has in it.

Good luck selling your truck.
I have been keeping my eyes open for a $500 beater commuter car but I just cant justify the purchase.
The price of the car alone is 7 weeks worth of gas in the Rover.
Then add the repairs/maintenance/insurance of the beater and then how reliable is it actually going to be?
I'm better off driving my Rover.
What kind of car are you looking to get in place of your Rover?

Spike,
What about more of an intial investment on the "beater" car. Say $1500, My thought was diesel prices must hold more steady from fluctuation than unleaded. Because truckers must use diesel in order to ship goods. Sure it will rise in price but it must be refined differently or less refined. So what about an older style diesel Mercies. I know there is particular model they use in Africa. It must get 30mpg or better. I dont know all the Mercies models, but I know they are good reliable cars. I was thinking 1995 so you could at least have an air bag. When gas hits over $4 like back in 2007 when I first bought my Discovery. I will be riding my bike 5 days a week, better for the enviroment and my waist line. Luckily I work from home!
