you have your b156 recall open, youll get a new fuel tank for free... do the dealer a favor, and take it in with no more then a quarter full tank, no one likes smelling like gas all day, and i cant tell you how many of those i did that had been freshly topped off, its no fun

Stress cracks and then it would leak. It is replaced with a plastic tank. If you have the plastic tank then it may have already been done.

yours needs to be done, even if it is plastic... i think theyre all plastic though, at least ive never seen a metal one, and now that i think of the bulletin, youre supposed to cut it in half with a saw after replacement, so i doubt theyd have you do that with a metal tank, but it is rover, so anything goes

The compant that I used to work for recycled fuel tanks as well as other things.
All gas tanks must either be cut un half or have the top cut off. Diesel tank you didnt have to.
Metal or plastic it didnt matter, it had to be cut open.

yeah, so that the fumes dont compress inside the tank and make a bang, i was saying it probably wouldnt be a great idea to pull a tank fresh out of a car full of residue and strat makin sparks directly into it, that said, have you seen a disco with a metal tank before?

Well even though I do crawl under every LR I see at the mall, no, I have not seen one with a metal gas tank.

Also, do yourself a favor and ask them to look at all of the lines (Vapor, etc, I'm not sure of the terminology). I brought my 94 in for it's recall and it leaked the first fill up. Unfortunately I was in NC by the time it happened. The dealer that replaced the tank was in the D.C. area and had no sympathy. What grinded me is that the mechanic should have noticed that, shouldn't he? Dry rotted line was obvious to me when I looked as gasoline spilled out. Maybe they assumed because I had an old truck that I couldn't afford it...dunno.

I guess I'm just saying you may as well have them look at the lines while it's out.
