Recurring P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit

Fellow Disco Owners,

I have an 04 that I’ve been giving a lot of TLC since purchasing 2 years ago. I’ve replaced all the usual mechanicals, sensors, battery, XYZ switch, CPS sensor (last summer), mass air flow sensor and this winter dropped a new engine in from British Atlantic (which is awesome).

I’ve got about 1k miles on it since the new engine. In the last couple of days I’ve had a couple of instances of a bucking and one time the M&S lights came on and she went into limp mode. The bucking only happened under mild acceleration.

Engine and transmission are strong so my thoughts are it’s electrical/sensor related.

What should I do to diagnose this further? Could it be the CPS again? The new one only has about 2k miles on it.

Any help much appreciated.

Tim.

More info

I should also add that twice I had to crank the starter for what seemed like a minute before it started. Does this also point to the CPS?

Certainly sounds like it. Is your ckps a Bosch? If not, get one; others are unreliable.

I was going to say the same thing.
The Duralast cps I bought at Auto Zone intermittently crapped out on me after 2 months.
Pay the money and replace with a Bosch.

Just ordered the CPS original equipment

Thanks for the replies. I just ordered the $90 CPS Bosch original equipment. I checked my order from last year and it was the $60 version.

I’ll report back with results. So looking forward to installing another one of these - not!

Subscribed. Sometimes I have to crank 2x to get her started. She cranks, but no cigar. Happens once in a while with, what I believe, to be a non-BOSCH CPS.

90% of the time Duralast units are actually Bosch units. Just ask to look at it before you buy it to verify it.

New CPS in and 100 miles on the clock with no issues. Will report back if I get the recurring bucks.
