Default Refacing Cylinder Heads for $75 total?

So I took my cylinder heads to a local shop that is recommended and he said for both to be bead blasted (or something to look for surface cracks - $15) and refaced ($60) the total was $75. That seemed reasonable so I said fine. He said otherwise they looked fine. I asked him if he was going to measure them for warpage and he said he will but usually with aluminum head cylinders (especially with this much milage) he just refaces them flat taking of the minimum amount of material.

Sounds like a good deal. I just spent $300 on one head (which got valve guide seals, and hot tanked as well).

Seeing if it sounds reasonable to others. He is going to inspect it but I don't expect to get anything rebuilt.

That sounds freaking awesome to me. I'm contemplating doing my heads as a preventative. My truck has 118k+ and I don't have any maintenance records saying it has ever been done. I'm cringing at the possible costs, but it'll be better than having one blow down the road.

Well it's been a fun learning experience so far. I'm hoping everything goes back together fine. I'm not sure I would do it preventative though unless you have time and or money to burn.

Yeah he is supposed to be the best around in business for 30 years or something, a real old school fabricator. I called a bunch of indy shops and a couple dealerships and everyone said he is where they send their work. I live in the country so everything is cheaper especially compared to NYC where we moved from. I guess it was a good sign that when I pulled up his shop was surrounded by classics, customs and hotrods waiting for work to be done.

Yeah I am in Western NY now right on Lake Ontario (Burt NY to be exact, 14028). About 35 miles north of buffalo. The machinist is in Gasport, NY. The shop is called Farley's (on Rochester Road).
