Not anymore, but apparently was at some point in time. I've been looking around the internet, apparently it's a common issue when mounting these with the feet facing forwards.

..... now if only I could find something on the internet telling me how to take the rest of it apart. x_x

Winch works after I tore it completely down and reassembled it.

It is still Warn's fault however for a sh*tty design.

The electric motor for a Warn winch is the same used for a Ford Escort with the 4cylinder starter motor.
Buy a starter for a Ford 4 cylinder, take the motor apart and take out the "motor" part and it will go right into the Warn winch.
I do not know the exact model, part number, etc.
But a guy with half a brain could figure it out.

No joke, epic. I will have to put that down in my notes so that I'll remember next time it fails, and craps out for good. I would of probably done this now had I known.

You earn +10 cool points for this.

I found that out from a old school mechanic I know, he used to drive tow truck and they used to rebuild their winches.
He bought a seized Warn 9500lbs winch off of Craig's List for his race car trailer for $50, it was like $75 for the starter, Warn wanted over $400 for the electric motor.
Been 4 yrs and it works great.
He buys car batteries from the junk yard, charges it between uses, jump it with the truck if needed.
Old car batteries work great for winching.
Once charge will last 2-3 race weekends.
