Reliability
How reliable are Land Rovers? I'm looking into getting a 98-00 Discovery because it will suit my needs as a DD and suprisingly enough, fits into my budget. My question is what are the common problems with discoveries and how reliable are they? I know repairs can be fairly expensive but I am able to do many repairs myself (brakes, light engine work, etc) and that should keep the cost of some repairs down. As I am new to the Land Rover Realm fill me in with the good the bad and the ugly.

RE: Reliability
CANiHaveGasCash,
I'm like you, I like to do most of the repairs myself if I can. I have had my Disco II for 3 years. For the most part I've
Replaced tires (from the original set)
replaced break pads (did the work myself)
replaced plugs and wires (LR dealer did this $700)
I do regular oil changes and thats about it. Knock on wood I hope it continues to be this way!

RE: Reliability
well it is time for my battle cry of the land rover. I have a 96 disco with 130k on it. I do the work, I do it right and most important.... fix things as they break. don't let the maintianence get behind. I have never been unable to get home. My total cost for maintainence and repair is 5000 over a ten year period of time. that includes brakes, tires, belts, hoses, plugs, wires, and so on. keep it right, and reliability is probably not going to be a problem. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff
