I like the white roof and blacked out hood idea. Has anyone ever used rhino lining or other such bed liner on the hood to black it out?

That's an interesting idea, Salve. I'd be curious to see how it affected the engine, heat-wise. Might look cool though, rugged like a diamond plate type thing.

i'm pretty sure i've seen that question addressed, but i can't remember what the verdict was.

at least one issue would be mud getting stuck in the nuances of the rhino lining... and the fact that your hood would look like it got some kind of animal skin melted on to the top...

yeah i dont know if i would go with a lining like that on the hood... i think your best bet for the blackout is just a flat black paint... the whole point of the blackout is to keep glare from the sun and roof mounted lights from reflecting off of it... so if you put some super high gloss black paint on there it would be a little counterproductive...

I wouldn't think that dirt or mud would be a problem seeing as to how everyone throws all their S*** in the back of their trucks and it washes out fine. I worry that the flat black paint will scuff real easy and be harder to wash than a clear coated gloss (and I don't want to use gloss for the reasons mentioned above). I do not have much experience with the stuff though. BTW: how would it effect engine heat? couldn't you just reduce the ammount of heat shield backing that is on the hood? What I really want to do is get a scrap hood, cut a vent (like on the WRX Subaru) and black out the raised portion with some kind of truck bed coating with maybe a little land rover badge seated in the goo to make it look more like OME.

Just a comment. It is absolutely amazing how much longer automotive paint will last if you can just shelter the car when you are not using it. Such as a garage or carport.
