Brian has a valid point.
For what it’s worth- especially if your truck has any lift - I’ve found rooftop fashion will eventually give way to practicality. Climbing out of the truck to the roof for any essentials up there gets old real fast.
Ive had my share of fun designing and outfitting the roof. And it certainly does come in handy for excess storage when needed - but it’s proven me more fun to play with then to make a tree house for practical equipment.
- does anyone have the load specs for the gutter rails on the D2?
Ive has some good weight up there at one time or another.. and even caught my rack wheeling a low profile line... Peeling my rack against the rails with way more force then ever intended. I couldn’t possibly be surprised to expect damage or leaking to occur if one is not conscience of this.
Looking fwd to some pictures when done!

I do more expedition type wheeling trips vs hardcore trails. I slap the ammo boxes up there (haven’t weighed them) but they’re maybe 25-30LB tops total. When I’m doing tight technical trails that stuff stays at base camp or I toss the box with recovery gear in the back & leave the other one. I’d like to add an awning, but no roof top tents for me.
I use my racks or I honestly wouldn’t have em. Things are tall, like to catch limbs, they howl going down the road & it lowers my MPG.

Roof top tents are perfect for small offroad trailers, I'd love to pick up a surplus military trailer to build out and put a tent on that vs the actual roof. I do a lot of wheeling and exploring when I camp and I don't want to break down camp every morning just to be able to move the vehicle.
