RE: Rough idle - occasionally running rough - CE light on
Thanks a lot!
One more question (for now)... what are the tools I will need to do this job? |
RE: Rough idle - occasionally running rough - CE light on
To replace the plugs all you need are a 3/8" drive rachet, a short extension and a spark plug socket that fits your plugs. The spark plug sockets come in different sizes.
You will also need a can of penatrent, like Liquid Wrench. Spray the base of the spark plug before you try to remove it. Then spray it again when you putthe new onein. As far as the plug wires go, if you are not removing the intake plenum, then you need little to nothing, if you are removing the plenum, I have no idea. Like I said before, I havea DI and they are different from DII's. When you do replace the wires, make sure that you only do one at a time. If you get them on the wrong plugs you will never get it figured out. |

Is WD-40 an okay penetrant to use on the plugs?

No, WaterDispersant-40 is not actualy a penatrant it is a protectant developed for the Navy during WWII to protect deck guns on ships.
Liquid wrench or JB-80 is a preffered choice. If all you have is WD-40 it will work, just not as well. |
I have the very same problem and am wondering if you ever managed to figure it out. I've put new wires, plugs, idle control valve, TPS and MAF and still am running like junk. Any ideas would be very helpfull. Oh mines a 98 disco1.
Thanks |
Any luck with this issue??
I am also having same problems, I have a 2003 disco ,already replaced plugs , wires ,coils....
changed Maf sensor last night , ran great for test drive! Sat over night , drove kids to school started bumpy idle again????.... made aappointment for mechanic on Monday.... just want to help point him to trouble area?? thank you all in advance for you help and knowledge! |
Any codes? Check your vacuum tubing and wires and make sure nothing has been disconnected. I find that whenever I get to tinkering, I usually end up knocking something off that causes a different issue.
