Default Rough idle - occasionally running rough - CE light on

So I'm worried about my Disco II

I'm getting a rough idle pretty consistently all of a sudden. Even after I've driven it, it isn't calming down. It seems to be okay at higher speeds, but even then it is a little rough. Check engine light is flashing intermittently, and sometimes just staying lit. I am worried.

LOL, I love your screen name...you need a tune up. Very common for LR's to idle rough when the spark plugs and plug wires go bad.
Go to AutoZone and have the codes read and I bet you that they come back with a random misfire.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll do that this weekend.

Ugh... tune up. How much is this going to run me? I am trying to save money because I'm moving soon. I am 30 years old in the middle of a career change, and starting med school in two months. Having a lot of money is not one of my strong points right now.

Oh yeah, I should add that I've got about 75,000 miles on it. I thought they replaced the plugs at a recent service, but I'm not totally sure. Wires, maybe?

Replace them both, you can go cheap on the plugs, for now, but dont skimp on the wires, being a DII the wires are a pain in the A$$'s to replace. www.roverconnection.com seems to have the best price on the plugs wires that are recommended for LR's. 7mm Magancor plug wires are supposed to be the best wires for the money.
As far as plugs go, just go to AutoZone and buy some champion plugs. You can put better ones in once you have the money.

Okay, so since my last post, I have driven the car only home from work, and it seems to have deteriorated quickly. It is running rough and sluggishly pretty consistently, and the CE light is always flashing. Does this still sound like a tune-up issue?

I'm thinking the next place I drive it will be to the auto parts store to read my codes, and then to the shop.

Check your coolant level and make sure that you dont have a blown head gasket.
Then go get the codes read. Write the codes down, they can also tell you what they mean.
Get back to us with what they said.

Coolant level is low. About half full or less. How do I check for blown head gasket?

Car has not been overheating at all, which is why I didn't even think to check this.

Before you jump into a tune up, go get your codes read at a local auto parts store, then get back to us with those codes. Then quit driving the dam truck, like your owners manual tells you to. Keep messing around and you will eat your cats and just land up spending more and more money.

Keep an eye on the temp gauge and go and get the codes read. AutoZone will do it for free.
