Security problem!! Won't start!!!
Hi all, I have a HSE7 Discovery, production date May of 2002. There's a blinking red light near the bottom of the instrument cluster flashing really fast, as well as a red light at the navigation system flashing as well. I am assuming it's a security issue, but the Hessie won't start, the key won't even turn in the ignition. Is there a way to get this thing started?? Why are these red lights flashing? Did someone try and break into my Discovery, and it just lock the ignition out?? How do I fix this?
Just curious, have you ever read your owners manual, that is described in great detail?
You might try and slowly over 6 to 8 seconds, lock and then unlock your door with either the remote or the key, then try a do a start. If that doesn't work, get back to me.

Thanks for the reply Mike,
I have an owner's manual, but have misplaced it. I thought I left it in the glove box, but it wasn't there. I don't know where I put it. I tried the lock/unlock with the key and the remote, but still no start and the lights are still flashing.

Update: Turning the wheel with the key did the trick as far as getting the blinking lights to go off, only now it won't crank, and when it tries to the theft deterrent system activates and the horn/lights go off. I think the battery got run down now. I'm off to get a new battery when my ride shows up.
Don't buy a new battery if the old one just needs a change. Get a 2 hour charge on the battery, reinstall it and call me so I can walk you thru some things to try.

I'm just gonna try and jump it off for now and see if it'll stay running. The battery cables are really corroded and the battery looks like it's been in there a while.
Then start with the basic, and clean everything up first, you will still have to deal with it and even if you start the engine, with dirty cables your ECU won't have the proper voltage to run on causing you lots of grief.
Okay, so I've got a new battery for the Rover, but now I've got the "Enter security code" on my radio/navigation system (because the battery was disconneted). Is there a place on the Land Rover with the security code printed on it?? Like, inside the glove box or inside the tailgate? Or do I have to go to a dealership??
