Ooh, this is a fun one!
My thoughts:
- I have yet to see an ‘02 I like.
- If you keep the white one, you need to swap racks as the white one has a D1 rack
- I’m with you on the headlights and front end (frankly tail lights) too
- The power of the 4.6 is more noticeable than I thought it would be
However, your option set differences further compound this. My dream color is Giverny. However, rear AC and bags are hard requirements for me. The more I think about it, the more I wish I had ACE on my ‘04 too as I loved that in my ‘00. 7 seats are great if you have that as a need, but they take up more room than I realized when stowed. I go back and forth on beige vs alpaca and also the black dash vs seat matching as well.
So I’m going to call it: Part of the reason I sold the ‘00 (even though it was PERFECT) was that it was just so painfully slow, and my Jeep was an 80% solution and got better economy and was infinitely faster (not to mention otherworldly when compared off road). Now with the ‘04 I can keep freeway speed and not be a road block, so I’ll start there. In your specific case, since one is Giverny, that is the next deciding factor. If you’re in it for the long haul, rear AC can be added- albeit a huge level of effort- as I’m with you and that is a hard requirement. Although you’ve had it longer and you know it better, double the mileage is nothing to sneeze at. Engines are getting harder to come by and a 99k is super low, and you know how long they’ll last if taken care of.
So that’s my choice. If you decide to keep the white one (not a bad choice either), like I said I’d swap racks. I don’t think you’re too far off base on $15k for the Giverny, but the rust would require a very thorough inspection before I’d agree to that. Also the market has softened just a touch at the moment, and a couple options missing hurt you as well.
This really is a hard one and is why I really screwed up in selling my ‘00 as it had every option under the sun and I had it modified and as functional as possible. But I’m getting more close to the ‘04 as I hopefully get it back on the road this weekend and can start to build the relationship with it.

Anyway, sort of a moot point now, a gent is flying up Monday to pick it up. Tons and tons of interest at $15k, to the point it made me wonder if I could’ve listed for $20. Will never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Its not a D1 rack, haha. It’s the original rack that came with it from the factory. The 2002 had the safari package optioned.

Anyway, congrats and condolences on your sale. I sold a cherry '04 white one back in 2007. I've always regretted it and wondered if I took too little $$$ for it...
