Slight whirring/humming sound when accelerating, plus other issues

I've had my 99 disco II for a couple weeks and just this weekend started hearing this sound. In other vehicles I've owned, a loud whirring or vaccuum-like sound means transmission issues, but this sound is more quiet and only noticeable with the radio off. It's coming from the front half of the truck.

I got under her last night and found a little oil seepage from the sump and what I think is an access panel on the transfer box. I park in the same place everyday and have yet to see any spots... the front two crossbars that pass under both these areas show signs of a drop, though.

What's your opinion?

are you throwing any CEL codes? are you losing coolant?

sounds like your driveshaft. be careful man. what does the ujoints on the front drive shaft look like? are they lose or binding? its recommended you change them out asap and replace them with greasable ones.

u can fix the wet xfer case cover by removing it, cleaning it, and resealing it with fresh rtv. dunno about the oil sump.

I read a couple other threads... it's definitely a driveshaft issue.

Next step, fixing it thing. Any parts need to be special ordered for my disco or does any reputable place carry the greasable u-joints, etc?

(qty 3) 344 precision u joints (qty 1) 617 precision ball kit or if you have an Advance Auto nearby PDQ 1-0005 (qty 3 @ $14) and Neapco 7-0081NG (qty 1 @ $30) there is a thread on here to rebuild it yourself. or you can have a drive line shop do it with these part numbers. drive line shop should cost about $200. or you can buy a new tom woods for around $350

Thanks for all the advice... what a great LR community.

Hilltopper, I searched for 1-0005 on Advanced Auto and came up with squat... what is it?
