Default So this is what a blown differential looks like.

Finally got around to replacing the front diff after it dying on me a few hours from home. Crazy. The sound inside the cabin matched the carnage when it happened. Sad thing is the disco only had 79k miles on it and it’s bone stock. How the heck does this happen?

I mean, at that mileage, even if it was original fluid, that shouldn’t have happened, right?

Is it random or can it be prevented?

Well if it gets "shock loaded" a bunch it will break - in simple terms punching the gas to floor to get say a big mud hole and have the tiri spin grab spin etc. Sooner or later something gives

I already have the replacement, all good there. Should I just toss this one or is there some other use for it? The teeth are all pretty chowdered.

Cover might be good..there is a LOT of stress when these implode, micro cracks you can't find without special dyes and transducers. Save if for emergency or to practice rebuilng.....
