well hell i might have to make the swap to premium in everything that i own.

my diesel work pick up is a company rig and they pay the fuel so putting in premium will not hurt me at all. thanks for the tips guys. this is something that is argued over and over on every forum, but its good to hear from people who have been around the actual oil industry.
If it is a diesel, then there is only one grade. Right?

thats what i thought too... i know there is non highway diesel, for like forklifts and tractors, and then highway diesel... but i thought there was only one grade of highway diesel... could be wrong though, wouldnt be the first time...

There are two grades of diesel, ultra low sulpher and off road diesel. Off road has a higher sulpher content.

I think what he is saying is that his work pays for the fuel for his work truck which he takes home and so he doesnt drive the LR everyday so buying premium wont be a issue because it is not his daily driver.

If you want a couple of MPG more along with some more low end power and less crud build up, use 91 plus octane if not it will cost you more in the long run to save a few cents per gallon today.

diesel has a cetane rating, you get the best diesel at truck stops.

And to add to the confusion there is also #1 diesel and #2 diesel.
#1 is for summer use and it has a higher cetane rating.
#2 is for winter use and has a lower cetane rating.
#1 more power and better MPG then with #2. Of course this is for those of us who live in cold climates.
A lot of over the road truck drivers will buy their fuel in Florida and then drive to Michigan in the winter time and the gel up and be stuck on the side of the road with a truck that wont run.

It is a huge fine if you get caught with offroad diesel on the road. Not worth the risk.

you are correct sir,,,, it was just getting to boring around my house. with a ford diesel that has zero issues and is free. so i needed a money pit to sit in the garage along with the bike and the 308,,,,[sm=headbang.gif]
