Default Spare tire carrier lug Torque Settings anyone?

So frustrated. Just trying to get on with a much bigger job, but stopped by a lack of simple data…

The lug nuts on the spare tire carrier — what is the torque setting that they are meant to be set to?

Really don't want the spare falling off and killing anyone... totally stunned that that is not in the rave next to the wheel lug settings.

Thank you all!

Tight should be fine. 50-80 ft lbs is fine. It won't come off. No need to be exact.

Remember that the lug nuts for the spare are different from the lug nuts for the wheels. If you put wheel lugs on the spare the threads will bottom out and you'll shear off the studs.
Spare lugs have a dimple on the stainless cap, whereas wheel lugs are flat.

9. Return tools, chocks, jack and spare wheel
in their correct storage positions.

Wheel nuts 140 Nm (103 lbf.ft)
From OM and WM. If really worried you can torque to wheel nut specs.

Hi

The spare wheel is only 3# nuts holding it therefore it is far less and it also doesn't undergo the stresses applied to any other ground/weight bearing wheel and hard cornering road wheel, therefore, IMHO 50-60psi torque is more than adequate for the spare.

Just snug down the nuts and then give them a little extra "umph." But don't go nuts.

The reason you've not found a torque spec is that it just doesn't matter.

Thank you all. I did them to 90, but might take them down a bit.
I don’t agree with the not speced as it doesn’t matter team - my first experience with this truck was getting a deeply seezed bolt removed by a mechanic, his torch and his two burliest assistants.
And the invers being imagining what happens when one of those big 255/55r18 is bouncing free down a highway at 120kph... wouldn’t want that going through a windshield!
Sirprised by LR on this one.

The studs on the spare mount aren't very strong. I used and impact gun on tightening mine and sheared the first on off when it just became tight. I'd say 56-60 ftlbs is plenty.

LR does state wheel nut torque. Why would they repeat for the spare carrier?

If we or Fallstaff torqued to 90 they likely wouldn't shear at 103 unless compromised by rust and and/or over torquing by an impact wrench.

Personally not too **** about my spare nuts.

Yeah, my friend was putting his spare tire back on the back after returning to civilization, and tried to put "normal" tire torque on the spare tire. It made a wretched sound. After that, we decided "snug" was fine, and the tire hasn't fallen off since.
