Default Speedometer quit working

Hi, I am a new member and also have learned a lot from just browsing.
I have a 1999 Disco I I . I do have the "3". Amigo's on dash lit up since owned for approx. 2 years problem free. 110,000 miles on odometer. Today speedo just stopped working. I read though the searches but still feel compelled to ask as I may be able to get it fixed myself with out looking for a needle in hay stack. Would the sensors behind the rotors have anything to do with this? I read trans sensor. I do mostly all wrench work on all my cars/trucks. But not real Informed about this...still in learning steps. I have all matainence done base on the how to forum. Any simple checks before my wallet gets beat up would be great. Thanks

I would run a scan on the abs system and see if there are any speed sensor failures first.

Each wheel has it's own speed sensor (so that the traction control system can work) and each one is rather... touchy.

If you can get a scanner that can read the ABS codes on the land rover it will tell you anything and everything.

There are a few people that rent them out for free on here, you just use paypal to leave a deposit so you return it.

A lot of newer scanners on the market can read ABS codes without any problem. Personally I bought an Autel AL619 and you just need to update it online to get all the current land rover codes on it. I think I paid like $160 but it works great on all my vehicles and friends.

Where do you live??

thanks! I live just about 15 min north of Detroit (please don't judge me,lol!) I did get a free scan from Auto Zone from a grumpy man and codes were.. P0500 & P1590 and said he don't know as his comp don't tell. I was thinking he just didn't know...went to a trans shop and they scanned and code came out as "Speed sensor A". So look on line a little but any help with where it is. I see what looks like it driver side of trans next to shifter. Looks kinda hard to get to but is that it?
Thanks, Redd

Thanks, I got the p0500 and that's speed sensor, found it as looked under and spotted it. Also refers to speed sensor in manual page 44-3 #4. I did /do have 3 amigos as alway but speedo just stopped after 2 years so would a good bet be that one on the trans at least ?
